Privacy policy

The short version
Good Steps doesn't collect any data. Your steps stay on your iPhone and Apple Watch. There's no account, no server, no analytics and no advertising in the app.
Who makes Good Steps
Good Steps is made by Katrina Watson, an independent developer based in Australia. You can contact me at hello@lumerastudio.co.
What the app reads
With your permission, Good Steps reads two things from Apple Health: your step count and your walking and running distance. It uses them only to show your progress, trends, streaks and on-track status, and to suggest a walk when one would help you reach your goal.
Good Steps only reads from Apple Health. It never writes to, changes or deletes anything in Apple Health. You can turn off its access at any time in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Good Steps.
Where your data is kept
Everything stays on your devices. To show your numbers quickly, the app saves a small summary (such as today's steps and recent daily totals) on your iPhone for its widgets, and on your Apple Watch for its complications. Your goal and app settings are also kept on your iPhone and copied to your paired Apple Watch, so both use the same goal. This copy goes directly between your devices using Apple's built-in connection; it isn't sent to me or to any server.
Your Health data is never stored in iCloud by Good Steps, never sent to me, never sold and never used for advertising or marketing.
What's collected
Nothing. Good Steps has no account, no sign-in, no server, and no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising tools. I can't see your steps, your goal or how you use the app.
Notifications
If you turn on walk reminders, Good Steps schedules them on your iPhone. They're worked out on your device from your own steps; nothing is sent anywhere to create them.
Links out of the app
The app includes a card about Zena, another app I make. Tapping it opens Zena's page in the App Store. No information about you or your steps is shared. If you choose to send feedback, your email app opens a message to me; I'll only use what you send to reply to you.
This website
This policy covers the Good Steps app. The website you're reading it on (katrinawatson.com) uses Google Analytics and Umami to count visits. That's separate from the app, which collects nothing.
Children
Good Steps doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, I'll update it here and change the date at the top.
Not medical advice
Good Steps is for general fitness and motivation. It isn't a medical device and doesn't give medical advice.
